Texas & Oklahoma Food + Kitchen Factory Tours

Welcome to our second installment of the Food + Kitchen Factory Tour Series!  If you missed the first one and know someone in Alabama or Florida, be sure to pass this one along!  I love discovering fun local places to visit, so load up the friends or fam and support one of these local establishments.  You'll probably get a taste of something yummy and learn something new in the process.  We'll be adding more states soon!  Be sure to call ahead as sometimes tours require reservations or may be cancelled all together.

Texas

Texas is big folks.  We all know everything is bigger in Texas, so these tours are not going to disappoint!

1. Walker Honey Farm - Rogers, Texas

Mr. Walker bought 150 hives of bees in the spring of 1930.  86 years and 3 generations later and the business is still going strong.  Reservations are a good idea for this Honey Farm.  Learn all about the process of making and collecting honey on this 45 minute tour.  

2. Bayer Museum of Agriculture - Lubbock, Texas

With exhibits and collections, their mission is to preserve the history of, tell the story of and instill pride in American Agriculture and values.  See vintage equipment and more.

3. Mozzarella Company - Dallas, Texas

Take cheese making classes and more at this fun company.  You can even schedule a private class!

4.  Homestead Heritage - Waco, Texas

This Homestead community has many events throughout the year including Sorgham and cheese making festivals that will show you how each is made.  Check their calendar for upcoming events. 

5. Veldhuizen Cheese - Dublin, Texas

Visit this farm on Farm Day in October to participate in a variety of classes or check their calendar events for other opportunities during the year!

6.  Cottonwood Wine Tour - San Antonio, Texas

Cottonwood provides several tours to choose from, including some family friendly tours.  You can also visit historic Fredericksburg and take tours from there.  Find more info here.

7. Spoetzl Brewery - Shiner, Texas

Enjoy a brewery tour and peruse the gift shop.  Be sure to check the schedule as they are closed for various weeks and holidays throughout the year.

8. Papes Pecan - Seguin, Texas

View over 5,000 different nutcrackers and see the world's largest mobile pecan.  Call ahead to inquire about tours of the pecan grove.

9. Dublin Bottling Works - Dublin, Texas

Dublin Bottling Works has been bottling sodas for over 120 years.  Enjoy history and tours at this one of a kind facility.

10. King Ranch - Houston, Texas

Take a cattle ranch tour and experience a variety of wildlife.  Book ahead online.

11.  George Ranch Historical Park - Houston, Texas

The recent Hurricane Harvey has caused this park to temporarily close.  But to make a visit to support their recovery once they've reopened!  You can see demonstrations for cattle roping and learn all about the workings of a cattle ranch.

12. Shady Grove Ranch - Jefferson, Texas

Shady Grove offers working farm tours a few times a year.  Check their calendar and read their info on the website to plan your visit.

Oklahoma

1.  Braum's Farm - Tuttle, Oklahoma

Tour Braum's to get a feel for how milk and ice cream are made at this dairy farm.

2. Jelly Making Trails - all around the place, Oklahoma

Choose from one of 6 trails that will take you through a number of locations.  These 6 trails span the state, so take you pick and have an adventure!

3. Lavender Valley Acres - Apache, Oklahoma

Visit the lavender gardens and participate in Spring and Fall open houses.  They have a variety of plants and products to choose from.

4.  All Pine Products - Yukon, Oklahoma

Ok, it's not food or kitchen related, but how could I resist?  This Christmas tree farm will make your family tree picking experience a joy.  Photo ops, activities for the kids and they'll load the tree for you! 

5. Just Right Alpacas - Jones, Oklahoma

These alpacas provide wool for a variety of products.  You will need to call this farm to plan a tour. 

6. Gray's Lland Acres - Pryor, Oklahoma

This goat and llama farm will tour show you the ropes.  Learn how to make goat cheese and other products.  Only $5 per person.

7. Briar Patch Winery & Pecan Farm - Porum, Oklahoma

Check their events page or message them about taking a tour!  They have a store with many options to pick from.

 8.  Jahn's Pumpkin Hill - Cyril, Oklahoma

The perfect family outing, this pumpkin farm will not disappoint with all the activities and pumpkin patch picking available.

 9.  Livesay Orchards - Porter, Oklahoma

Peaches, Apples, Pumpkins: choose your season and visit this pick your own farm.  You can also schedule school visits for your classroom.

    Another great list! I can’t believe I’ve only done the Dublin Bottling Works tour out of all the things you listed for Texas…I was born and raised there! Guess I have some catching up to do ;)

    Wow, this list has so much variety! I would love to go on a road trip and visit some of these (especially the bee farm and alpacas)! Great post!
